Victorian slate striking mantel clock

A smart piece of Victoriana with a beautifully delicate cup bell chime on the half hour and the hour.

Item Description

This is a beautiful elegantly understated clock, with classic late Victorian features. Probably dating from the 1880s, the black slate case is in good condition, dulled slightly (you can buff it up and gloss it when you get it home if you wish – we like its dated patina) with no gilding. There is one barely visible chip to the bevelled top of the plinth. The brass bezel holds bevelled glass. The dial is white enamelled with black roman numerals. The is one crack beneath the going train winding hole but otherwise the dial is in good condition.

The movement and pendulum is visible through a glazed circular door to the rear. There is one crack across the glass.
