A beautiful example of the smaller wooden perpetual calendar from the late 19th or early 20th century.

Item Description

Notable for its beautiful and distinctive deep grain on the front panel, this is a superb example of a late 19th or early 20th century wooden perpetual calendar.

The case is in excellent condition throughout and the item is in full working order.  It shows day, date and month through glass-protected bevelled openings.  The day and month are on paper on wooden rollers, the date on linen.  There is slight dulling to the white background on the day and month rollers, inevitable over the 100 years or so of the calendar’s lifetime.

Perpetual calendars are now sought-after collectables and this is a prime example of the kind especially popular in the 1920s and 1930s.   With their simple mechanical operation, they offer the perfect antidote to the digital age and add a timelessness to office or home settings.

Wooden perpetual calendars were especially popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their popularity continued in office settings into the 1950s and 1960s where their styling is noticeably more ‘modern’.  It is hard to date individual items accurately – they rarely carry makers’ marks or any other kind of identification,

This wooden perpetual calendar measures 22cms in height and is 14.5cms wide on the base, and 8cms deep.
