Art deco Westminster chime mantel clock

There is a beautifully resonant Westminster chime and strike on this exquisite mantel clock, so evocative of the 1930s and 1940s mantelpiece.

Item Description

Picture the 1940s wartime romantic film, the country cottage or cosy townhouse, and on the mantelpiece is a walnut clock, its rounded dome flanked by squared and splayed art deco pillars with wooden inlay.  In an age where the clock was the centrepiece of the lounge, whilst people concentrated on the latest radio news reports, you’ll find this clock.

With a German-made self-correcting three train movement and a beautiful varnished finish, the piece is in good condition with just a couple of minor blemishes to the varnish (see pictures) – just the natural wear and tear of having been part of countless lives for over 75 years.

The Westminster chime resonates on brass rods.  There is a lever to run the clock without the chime and strike, but why on earth would you want to?!
